If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us.
1 John 1:8 NIV
God created man to be happy and to be his friend. It put him, in a perfect place, where everything was done for him. But in order to truly love God, man had to have free will. In fact, true love is a choice and not a mechanism. If we were forced to love God, we would be like robots.
But with Adam’s free will, he decided to disobey God, becoming his enemy. So God has allowed evil and death into the world.
Adam’s sin is transmitted from generation to generation. Due to his sinful nature, man finds it difficult to obey God.
Knowing this, to say that you are sinless is, of course, self-deception. We all sin, and for this we need Jesus.. Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross meant that, repenting of your sins, you accepted the gift he gave us, dying on the cross, and rising again, defeating death.
If you say you are without sin, you are also lying. Because your conscience lets you know when you sin. If you are lying, the truth is not in you. Not only that, but, since Jesus is the truth: he is not in you.
Devotional
Sin and self-deception always go together. Why do we sin? Because we think this is a shortcut, which will produce more benefits than obeying God. But in the end, sin brings us even more suffering than we would have had to endure if we had obeyed God. If you don’t go back from this spiral, you end up in extreme situations, from which it’s difficult to get out. But, always remember, that it is never too late, because everything is possible for God.
