Coins, coins, coins.

Papaia goes to the supermarket to do some grocery shopping. He decides to take the opportunity to finally get rid of all the coins he has accumulated.

He buys some frozen pizzas and other stuff, and heads to the checkout.

Cashier: “That’ll be 30 euros. Would you like a bag?”

Papaia: “Yes, please.”

Cashier: “Then it’s 30 euros and 30 cents.”

Papaia: “Oh… then no.”

Cashier: “Okay. Cash or card?”

Papaia: “Would you mind if I paid with coins?”

The cashier wrinkles her nose.

Cashier: “Yeah, sure.”

Papaia starts counting his coins. The customers behind him begin looking at their watches, sighing, and shifting impatiently.

Papaia finally reaches €29.50.

He checks his pockets.

Papaia: “Oh! I’m fifty cents short.”

Cashier: “Do you want to take something out?”

Papaia: “No, I need everything.”

Cashier: “Do you have a banknote? Or you can pay by card.”

Papaia searches through his wallet.

Papaia: “Oh, here we go!”

He pulls out a banknote.

It’s a €100 bill.

Papaia: “I only have this.”

Cashier: “Don’t you have a smaller one?”

Papaia: “No, that’s all I have.”

Cashier: “Okay.”

The cashier gives him his coins back. Papaia temporarily puts them on top of the pizza box.

Cashier: “I’m sorry, but I only have coins for change.”

Papaia stares at her, dumbfounded.

The cashier gives him €70 in coins.

The entire line behind him lets out a collective sigh.

Papaia gathers all the coins and puts them together on top of the pizza box.

Cashier: “Are you collecting the stickers?”

Papaia: “Yes, thank you.”

The cashier counts the stickers and hands them to Papaia.

Papaia counts them again, just to make sure.

Papaia: “Excuse me, how many stickers do I need for the teapot?”

Cashier: “350.”

Papaia checks his card.

He has 349.

Papaia: “I’m missing one.”

Cashier: “Then you can get it next time. Or, if you want, there’s the napkin holder.”

Papaia: “Oh, no… I already have that.”

Someone in the line groans.

Cashier: “Have a nice day. Thank you.”

Under pressure from the people waiting, Papaia turns around and hurries away.

But he forgets about the €70 in coins sitting on top of the pizza box.

The coins immediately slide off and scatter all over the floor, rolling between the feet of the customers in line.

Papaia finally makes it home, where he meets his wife.

Wife: “Did you get rid of the coins?”
