The word of God is alive

For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.

Hebrews 4:12 NIV

When we study the Bible, we must consider the most crucial information: the Bible is true, and the Bible is the truth. Therefore this verse talks about the consequences of this truth.

In John 8:12 we can read

When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

John 8:12 NIV

The effect of the truth is like the effect of the light that illuminates something in the darkness. The truth opens your eyes. The word of God is this: you always can trust it.

When you have a choice to do, this is where you can get the best advice. In the Bible, we can understand how human nature is, also how our relationship with God works.

The word is alive, because it applies to the past, to the present, and to the future. The word is active, because, it’s able to change your mind, save the unsaved, give you peace, wisdom, and more. Also is active because of the Holy Spirit, who helps you when you are reading. So that it can work in your spirit, and not only in your mind.

Because God is the source of perfect morality, in his word, you find judgment. If we think about the moral laws in Exodus 20, we can see that we all are sinners, and we are never going to be able to stand in front of God’s perfect morality. We all need Jesus and his mercy.

The word of God is not dead, it has a purpose, and it will accomplish the purpose for which it has been sent. The word contains promises, these promises God will keep with humanity. It can exalt you, encourage you but also rebuke you, as God understands perfectly human nature.

The word of God is living, and when you hear it, it makes you come alive. When you read the word of God, you put something alive into your heart.
